Phoolka AAP’s leader quits as Leader of Opposition in punjab assembly

AAP’s senior Legislator and lawyer H.S Phoolka resigned as leader of opposition in Punjab assembly on Tuesday. Phoolka submitted his resignation to speaker Rana KP Singh as he was not able to fight cases of the 1984 anti sikh riots victims.

He tweeted “submitted my resignation from the post of Leader of Oppostion to speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha” and posted his picture where he was submitting his resignation to Rana KP Singh.

He took the decision after the Delhi Bar Council had disallowed him from appearing for the victims in several cases against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and others saying that as a Leader of Opposition,
he enjoyed an ‘office of profit’.

Earlier he had suggested names of some senior leader of party for the legislature party leader. He had asked AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal to select somebody else as party leader from his suggested name of sukhpal singh khaira, kanwar sandhu and aman arora.

Khaira, a former Congressman, is an MLA from Bholath assembly seat.

Khaira had led the charge against Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjit Singh who was facing allegations of impropriety in the multi-crore sand mining auctions.

Sandhu, a former journalist and was involved in preparing AAP’s manifesto during assembly polls, is an MLA from Kharar seat, while Arora is an MLA from Sunam
